Netiquette
1. Do not give out personal information (addresses, telephone numbers, photographs or even the name of your school) without your parents’ permission.
2. Tell your parents right away if you come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable or that you feel is questionable.
3. Never agree to get together with someone you "meet" online, this could be extremely dangerous.
4. Set up rules for going online. Decide upon the time of day that you can be online, the length of time you can be online and appropriate areas for you to visit. Do not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.
5. Do not give out your Internet password to anyone (even your best friends) other than your parents.
6. Check with your parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt your computer or jeopardize your family’s privacy.
7. Be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or that is against the law.
8. Help your parents understand how to have fun and learn things online; teach them about the Internet, computers and other technology.
9. DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS! This is considered yelling on-line and is considered very rude.
10. When send e-mails to a large group of
people, keep their e-mail identity a secret. To do this, send Blind Carbon
Copies (Bcc’s:) instead of Carbon Copies (Cc’s:).
11. It is hard to sense emotion on-line. When your are joking around add a smiley face : ) and when you are sad add a frown : ( This will help clue in your friends.
12. Keep your e-mails short and to the point, unless it is for a friend who is expecting a long response.
13. At the end of your e-mail add closure, a simple “Thank You,” “Sincerely,” “Bye,” or “Later” before your name shows the person that you respect their time.
14. Do not respond to nasty e-mails or messages. Furthermore, do not send nasty e-mails or messages!
